Evocative photography is a tricky balancing act between the subject of the lens and the viewers. It requires a complete mastery of photography fundamentals as well as an intimate understanding of various aspects of human nature. L Ǝ X is a collection of long exposure photographs by Zoltan Bekefy; it’s a series that perfectly captures the hollowness humans experience at various points in their lives. The emptiness after a breakup, the numbness after losing a loved one, or even the loss of long lived pet.
Zolan’s series focuses on empty landscapes obscured by mist and fog. The use of black and white photography adds both a serene and eerie feeling to each picture. The images, thought inviting to the viewers, become uncomfortable if stared at for too long as if to remind the viewer that they shouldn’t linger too long, lest they become part of image itself.
