“I am an artist of the imaginable. I work with interior narrative, symbol and intention as a way to visually portray the numinous.”
This is a very fitting artistic platitude when you get a good look at the psychedelic paintings of visionary artist Stuart Griggs. Griggs is perhaps the best representation of the transcendental artist in both his vision and his execution of work. His portfolio largely consists of what I can only describe as a collage collision of religion, drugs, paint, and culture. Griggs, however, has a better explanation behind the motifs that pop up in his work:
Themes of sacred divinity, fertility, ritual, flow, transcendence & healing are synergising through the imagery as i allow a tacit sense of the numinous to unfold and transmit….Themes of sacred divinity, fertility, ritual, flow, transcendence & healing are synergising through the imagery as i allow a tacit sense of the numinous to unfold and transmit.
My work expands and interacts in our globally connected environment .It is cross cultural fusion that utilises new technology while integrating archaic elements , shamanic motifs and stylistic influences from , symbolism, surrealism , abstraction, and contemporary illustration. .It mirrors our times , with a boundary dissolving shift in perspective. In a time of socio political and environmental crisis the works message offers a paradigm of interconnectivity and healing within ourselves and nature .
Neither his words, nor our own, properly express the level of depth and skill of his body of work. Scroll through a few of our favourite images by him in the gallery below and take a look at his full portfolio in the credits.
